Energy Management

Going Green = Saving Green!

We are all becoming more conscious of our impact on the environment. Elk's energy management solutions help you protect the environment and reduce your utility bills, without sacrificing comfort.  By giving you greater control of climate, lighting systems, electric water heaters and more, Elk helps you protect the Earth's environment while keeping your world comfortable.

Lighting Control
Minimizing unnecessary usage of lighting can provide significant energy savings.  Consider the benefits of integrating lighting control with the security system.  Motion sensors used to detect intrusion can also be used to monitor occupancy of a room and automatically turn lights off in rooms that are not occupied.  Lights can be automatically turned off when the system is armed to away mode. Use of lighting scenes, based on type of activity, can provide proper lighting and reduce energy consumption.  Choosing to turn lights on at a dimmed setting, rather than full on, saves bulbs and energy.

ELK M1 systems feature an astronomical clock, allowing the system to control lighting based on sunrise/sunset.  Lights can be scheduled to automatically turn on or off based on time of day and if it is light/dark outside.

With more than 10 different lighting partners including several with wireless options, its easy to find the perfect lighting system for any home or business, whether it is new or existing construction.

Climate Control
Heating and cooling accounts for up to 45% of the energy consumption in a home or commercial building.  Automated climate control offers substantial energy savings.  ELK M1 systems can integrate with communicating thermostats, from several manufacturers, to provide automatic control based on schedule or system arm state without sacrificing comfort.  M1 systems can also control air ducts to reduce airflow to normally unoccupied rooms.

Window Coverings
Its no secret that a great deal of heating and cooling is lost through windows.  Controlling shades and/or blinds can help the heating /cooling system work more efficiently, saving money and increasing the longevity of the heating/cooling system.  The M1 system can control electronic window coverings in the summer to prevent radiant heat from raising temperatures in the premise and in the winter to allow natural heat from the sun to warm the room.  Closing shades/blinds at night during the winter helps trap heat inside and prevent cool air from seeping in.

Electric Water Heaters
Water heating accounts for nearly 20% of energy consumption in homes and businesses.  Controlling the water heater to heat water based on consumption schedules is an easy way to save energy.  The ELK M1 system uses a heavy duty relay to control the water heater, allowing it to automatically be turned off when the system is armed to away mode, during late hours when it is not in use, and while away on vacation.

Water Conservation
Automating the sprinkler system can be a great way to care for landscaping while helping to conserve water.  Sprinkler control can be scheduled during early morning hours when it is most efficient.  Watering schedules can easily conform to community ordinances.  The M1 system can even incorporate rain and soil moisture sensors to prevent watering when it is not necessary.
