Don't Be Left Out In The Dark

Relieve that uneasy feeling of being in the dark, fumbling for keys, trying to enter the safety of home or business.  This week’s tip provides some ideas to automate exterior lights so your customers never feel “left in the dark.”

A task can be used whenever you desire a series of events to occur from more than one trigger.  In this application, a task is defined to turn on two outdoor lights for 5 minutes.  This task can be activated by an outdoor motion sensor or a wireless keyfob button.  The task could also be activated from a keypad or the telephone remote control.

WHENEVER Outdoor Lights (Task 4) IS ACTIVATED
THEN TURN Outdoor Light 1 [2(A2)] ON FOR 5 MINS
THEN TURN Outdoor Light 2 [3(A3)] ON FOR 5 MINS

The following rule activates the task when the motion sensor is tripped and it is dark outside.

WHENEVER Motion 1 (Zn 7) BECOMES NOT SECURE
     AND IT IS DARK OUTSIDE
THEN ACTIVATE Outdoor Lights (Task 4)

The above option is good for a customer who is able to park close to the entrance (and the motion sensor).  However, if the customer is not close to the motion sensor when exiting their car, a wireless keyfob may be their best option to turn the lights on immediately.  The following rule activates the task when keyfob button 3 is pressed.

WHENEVER RF KEYFOB BUTTON 3 IS ACTIVATED
THEN ACTIVATE Outdoor Lights (Task 4)
