How to…
...wake up to a pleasant voice, a warm room, and a good, hot cup of coffee

The following example assumes that the customer wants to wake up at 6:00 am .  Adjust times as needed to suit the customer’s desired wake up time.  The following rule will turn the heat up to 72 degrees and turn the hot water heater on at 5:20 am .

WHENEVER THE TIME IS 5:20 AM
THEN SET Thermostat01 (Tstat 1) HEATING DESIRED TEMP TO 72 DEG. F. (22 DEG. C.)
THEN TURN Water Heater [10 (A10)] ON

Next, at 5:40 am on Monday through Friday, the M1 will announce time and turn the lights in the master bedroom to 25% brightness.

WHENEVER THE TIME IS 5:40 AM
AND THE DAY(S) OF THE WEEK IS/ARE –MTWTF-
          THEN ANNOUNCE Say Time (vm238)
THEN SET Master Bedroom [8(A8)] TO 25% BRIGHT

Then, at 5:50 am on Monday though Friday, the time will be announced and the lights in the master bedroom will be set to 50% brightness.  Also, the coffee pot will be turned on.

WHENEVER THE TIME IS 5:50 AM
AND THE DAY(S) OF THE WEEK IS/ARE –MTWTF-
         THEN ANNOUNCE Say Time (vm238)
THEN SET Master Bedroom [8(A8)] TO 50% BRIGHT
THEN TURN Coffee Pot [9 (A9)] ON

Finally, at 6:00 am , the time and outside temperature are announced, and the master bedroom lights are turned on all the way.  In this example an ELK-M1ZTSR, zone temperature sensor, is connected to zone 16.  The voice description for zone 16 has been set up to announce “Outside Temperature Is”.  The voice description is set up in RP on the screen for each zone, under inputs.

WHENEVER THE TIME IS 6:00 AM
AND THE DAY(S) OF THE WEEK IS/ARE –MTWTF-
         THEN ANNOUNCE Say Time (vm238)
         THEN ANNOUNCE Zone 16 (Zn16)
THEN ANNOUNCE TEMPERATURE READING OF Zone 16 (Zn 16)
THEN SET Master Bedroom [8(A8)] ON

When the system is armed in away mode, the lights, the coffee pot, and the hot water heater are turned off by sending an “All Units Off” command.  Also, the thermostat is set to 65 degrees.  This helps to conserve energy and keeps the customer from worrying about manually turning off the devices.

WHENEVER Area One (Area 1) IS ARMED AWAY
THEN TURN ALL UNITS OFF, HOUSECODE A
THEN SET Thermostat01 (Tstat 1) HEATING DESIRED TEMP TO 65 DEG. F. (18 DEG. C.)

How does the customer disable the “Wake Up” sequence?  To allow this option a counter will be used.  When the F key (F6 in this example) is pressed the counter will be set to one.  The counter will be reset to zero at 8:00 am (after the sequence would have occurred.)

WHENEVER F6 KEY ON ANY KEYPAD ACTIVATES
THEN SET Don’t Wake (Counter 1) TO 1

WHENEVER THE TIME IS
8:00 AM
THEN SET Don’t Wake (Counter 1) TO 0

Check the value of the counter in each rule, by adding the “and” statement shown below in bold.  The sequence will only be activated if the counter value is zero.

WHENEVER THE TIME IS 5:40 AM
AND THE DAY(S) OF THE WEEK IS/ARE –MTWTF-

AND Don’t Wake (Counter 1) IS EQUAL TO 0
          THEN ANNOUNCE Say Time (vm238)
THEN SET Master Bedroom [8(A8)] TO 25% BRIGHT

ELK RP Tip Of The Week

Multi-operator Access is an option that, when enabled, requires the operator to log on with a password in order to use ElkRP.   By default, Multi-operator Access is turned off.  For added security, however, Multi-operator Access should be enabled.  The system administrator selects the passwords and selects which features each operator can use.  To enable or disable Multi-operator Access, select Operators from the Setup menu, enter the administrator’s password if prompted, and then click on Enable multi-operator access.  Once enabled, you can add, edit, and remove operator names.  For more information, reference the online help.
