M1 Speaker Output to Line Level Output

In some applications it may be desirable to convert Speaker Output 1 on the M1 to a line level output.  This will allow connection to an audio amplifier or similar device.  For example, you may want the voice annunciations from output 1 to be heard on the speakers connected to a whole house audio system.

The diagram below shows how to convert speaker output 1 to a line level output.

ELK RP Tips

Modem Connection Methods
Telephone Connection Already Established
This method assumes a voice connection has already been established.  The customer must be using a telephone that is physically on the same line as the system.  The operator must likewise be using a telephone on the same line as the modem (i.e. the telephone is plugged into the phone jack on the modem).

The operator instructs the customer (over the telephone) to force the system on-line.  The customer navigates to Menu 8-System Settings.  Then choose option 85-Download Ctl.  Under this menu the customer must choose 1: Sieze Line Attended Mode.  At about the same time, the operator selects Telephone connection already established on the Connection menu, Dial command.  The system and ElkRP will both seize the line and connect.

Some practice may be required to get this method to work consistently.  If either the customer or the operator takes too long to connect, the other side may time out.  The timeout is generously long, especially for an experienced user.  However, an inexperienced customer may not complete the task in time.

Requiring a person be near the system to help initiate the connection is both an advantage and a disadvantage.  It increases security, because the system may be programmed to not auto-answer.  Thus, it will not connect with any other computer.  The disadvantage is that it is not automatic.
