With Autumn now upon us, it
will not be long until many of us must fall
back in time. You know the
drill. You must manually
adjust all the clocks in the home, office, etc.
Why not let the M1 remind you every year to adjust the clocks for
daylight savings time? All of
your customers will want this feature!
This newsletter will cover examples of how to program the system to
give these reminders.
Daylight savings time
begins on the second Sunday in March. The
rule below will announce “Adjust Time Tonight” and display “Set
Clocks Ahead 1 Hour” on the keypad every 2 hours after
5:00pm on the Saturday before
daylight savings time begins.

Daylight
savings time ends on the first Sunday in November.

When writing rules based on dates that do not
fall on the same day every year, it is important to consider any scenario
that may prevent the rule from working the way you intend, every year.
For example, the rule above will not give the reminders if the
first Sunday in November also happens to be the first day of November.
This would mean that Saturday before would fall on October 31.
To account for this possibility an additional rule will be needed.

Will
the M1’s clocks require manual adjustment for Daylight Savings Time?
No.
The M1 can be programmed to adjust its clock for daylight savings
time automatically. This
setting is found in the Global System Definitions menu (Installation
Programming-Menu 9, Sub-menu 7, G05) in the keypad or in ElkRP on the
Globals screen on the G01-G05 (Miscellaneous) tab.

Tips
ElkRP
Log
If you receive a warning about the log file reaching
its limit, don’t panic! This
is a log ElkRP keeps for your records.
It logs what accounts were opened and connected to.
To purge the log, click the Print icon, select “ElkRP Log,” and
click either Print or Preview. Note:
If you print the log, it may require lots of paper!
After printing or previewing, select “Purge the log” and click
OK. To modify the amount of
disk space the log is allowed to use before warning you, click on Setup
-> Options. Adjust the
slider at the bottom of the window to change the size.
This does NOT control how big the log is allowed to grow.
The log will grow indefinitely, as long as disk space is available.
This size just sets the trigger for the warnings only.
