Don't Get Washed Away By Water Leaks
Each
year, an estimated $6.8 billion worth of property damage is caused by
water. The majority of this damage is due to appliance failure.
While you can repair a floor or replace
furniture, you can’t replace the lifetime of memories—scrapbooks and
pictures—that often get destroyed when a water leak occurs. With
water detection sensors and an electrically operated water cutoff valve,
the M1 Cross Platform ControlÒ can cut the water off and notify you, if a
leak is detected.
The
following rule monitors a water sensor near the washing machine.
If a leak is detected, the water will be cut off, and “Water is
off. Leak detected, laundry room.” is announced.
A “phantom" output (Output 203) is turned on to 'flag' the
area where the leak was detected.
WHENEVER Laundry
Room (Zn 13) BECOMES NOT SECURE
THEN TURN
Water Cutoff (Out 7) ON
THEN TURN
Output 203 ON
THEN
ANNOUNCE Water (vm294)
THEN
ANNOUNCE Laundry Room (Zn 13) |
In the following rule, if the
system is armed in away mode at the time the leak is detected, the
customer will be notified by phone.
For a commercial account, the facility maintenance supervisor could
be contacted. Up
to 8 numbers can be dialed.
WHENEVER Water Cutoff (Out 7) STATE
IS TURNED ON
AND Area One (Area 1) IS ARMED AWAY
THEN DIAL
Phone (5555555) AND ANNOUNCE Water (vm 294) |
The next rule will notify the
customer of the leak when the system is disarmed.
This is helpful as a reminder, or in the case that the first person
to arrive home was not aware of the leak.
Also, output 203 is turned off to reset the ‘flag’.
WHENEVER Area One (Area 1) ARM STATE
BECOMES DISARMED
AND Output 203 STATE IS ON
THEN
ANNOUNCE Water (vm 294)
THEN
ANNOUNCE Laundry Room (Zn 13)
THEN TURN
Output 203 OFF |
Repeat the
process for the water heater, dishwasher, and ice maker, and stop worrying
about leaks!
