Tomas,
I wanted to provide an update regarding the keypad flashing and beeping you experienced. We were able to replicate the issue in our test lab by lowering the voltage at the keypad to 10.5 volts. The system has a low-power shutdown feature that powers down at 10 volts to prevent deep discharging the battery.
The keypad requires just over 10.5 volts to operate. What you experienced was the keypad functioning at the edge of this voltage threshold. As a result, the keypad powered on, drawing the voltage down, which caused it to power off. With the keypad off, the voltage climbed slightly, allowing it to power back up. This cycle repeated rapidly, creating the flashing and beeping behavior you observed.
While this explains the symptoms, it does not identify the root cause. Several factors could contribute, including the amp load on the panel, the battery’s quality and amp-hour rating, the wire size, and the length of the run to the keypad. If you have access to the keypad, one test you could perform is measuring the voltage at the keypad and comparing it to the AUX voltage at the control panel. This will help determine the voltage drop and could provide insight into why the keypad experienced this issue before the control panel reached its power-down state.
I’d love to learn more about this installation to better understand the situation and explore ways to improve our product.
Thanks again,
Mike
