Every day at 07:00 my M1 sends me a text message that confirms the text messaging process is working. This has worked flawlessly for several years. I had to implement a Google App Password back in summer 2024 to keep it working but have experienced no problems before or after this, receiving several text messages every day as various rules sent messages in response to gate and door openings, freezer temperatures, power failures etc.
The last message I received was late on the evening of February 23. Since then, no messages. All other aspects of the M1 are functioning fine. System logs confirm this.
Troubleshooting to date:
1. Using the Test button on the M1XEP Setup window fails. It worked previous to this.
2. Confirmed Google’s recommended Gmail port and server URL/IP have not changed.
3. I tried using Gmail’s alternate port without success.
4. My Google account and email have not changed.
5. I deleted the relevant Google App Password and asked Google to create a new one. No success after updating the M1XEP with the new password.
6. Successfully tested the cell service email address I use to receive M1 messages and send them to my iPhone as SMS. Did this with both a Gmail account and an ISP provider account. Worked quickly and perfectly.
Out of ideas. Does this sound familiar or any suggestions for me to pursue?

Are you running M1XEP Firmware 2.0.51? If not please try updating. In the M1XEP Setup under the TCP/IP Setting tab what do you have for the Primary DNS Server IP Address? You might want to try using your Gateway as the Primary or Google 8.8.8.8 and leave the Secondary blank.

March 4, 2026 at 10:40 am #10072Brent WallaceProblem solved. Updated the M1XEP to 2.0.51. Did not have to try anything else. Turned on update checking each time ElkRP2 is started to remind me to update.
During my research, as Guy noted, there is a lot of information available about Google restricting 3rd party apps from accessing Gmail starting in summer 2024. Sooner or later I expect this may end up impacting M1 owners using Gmail for text messaging.
Thanks Brad and Guy!

March 5, 2026 at 9:08 am #10077John SchumannOK, I got the bootloader and firmware updated. Email works, but……
When I start ELKRP2 and connect to network, I get the yellow warning that says XEP Setup has conflicts. I tried:
-View differences, it save it cannot display them
-Send checked items, save and restart still comes back
-Receive checked items, save and restart, still comes back
-Delete checked items, says it cannot do it.
– I also went in MEP Setup and checked all the tabs for any possible new settings, nothing.
How do I clear this?
Thanks,
John

Please try the following:
- Open ElkRP2 and your Account
- Connect to the M1
- Click Automation, Sunrise/Sunset
- Click “Select City” and select a City near you
- Check to make sure the Time Zone is correct
- Click Calculate
- Click Send To Control
- From the M1XEP Setup click “Receive”
- Under the Time Server Tab check to make sure the Time Zone is Correct
- From the M1XEP click Send
- Once the M1XEP has rebooted Disconnect and Re-Connect to see if you still have the M1XEP Conflict
If So you may want to try creating a New default Account
- Click File and New Account
- Account ID {create a new Account ID that is different from the original}
- System Type M1G
- Serial Number {enter the 8 digit serial number of the M1}
- If you changed the RP Access Code you will need to enter your RP Access Code
- Check mark {by default should already be checked} “Create a default account”
- Check Mark { by default should already be checked} “Create a version 5.x.x account” —— UNLESS your M1 is running 4.x.x then check the “Create legacy 4.x.x”
- Click OK
- Connect to the M1
- Once connected at the bottom of the screen in the yellow conflict box click “Select ALL”
- “VERY IMPORTANT” next click “Receive Checked Items into Data Base” —-make sure to “RECEIVE….”
- Save, Disconnect, Re-Connect to see if you receive the M1XEP Conflict
March 10, 2026 at 1:08 pm #10098John SchumannBrad, I tried the top one twice, no luck. Moving on to bottom one, Any implications to changing account?

No, you will have two accounts with the same information
March 10, 2026 at 5:20 pm #10101John SchumannBrad, so if it works, I can delete the old account?
March 10, 2026 at 5:42 pm #10102John SchumannBrad, will my programs copy over if I don’t select copy programs?
Also, Old account doesn’t list serial number. Can I find on RP2 or do I have to go look at the M1 device?
Thanks,
John
