Followed the procedure in the release note: ELK-M1XEP Release Notes
The boot loader update completed without error, but the M1XEP update responded with:

What is the version of the Bootware? You should be at 2.0.4. In ElKRP2 with the Account open click the M1XEP Setup and can you click the PGM Firmware button or is it grayed out?

Thanks for your reply.  Boot version: 3.3.6 as shown in image below.

I don’t see a PGM Firmware button in the M1EXP Setup.

3.3.6 is the Bootware for the M1 panel. In the M1XEP click “FIND” and if the M1XEP is found on the LAN you should see the options Search, Use Selected , “PGM Firmware” and Cancel. If unsuccessful run the “Special M1XEP 2.0.34 Updater Utility”  https://www.elkproducts.com/elkdoc/special-m1xep-2-0-34-updater-utility/

Thanks again.  The “FIND” button in the M1EXP setup is dimmed and cannot be selected.

The special utility finds the M1EXP and shows:
Current Bootloader version: 01.02.00 and Firmware version: 01.03.28

OK to proceed installing the special utility?

Yes, run the utility to update your M1XEP to Bootware 2.0.2 and Firmware 2.0.34 then you can update to 2.0.4 and 2.0.51. Make sure your ElkRP2 is at 2.0.41

Making progress.  Special Utility ran fine and reported these updates:
                  Bootloader to ver 02.00.02
                  Firmware to ver 02.00.34

Waited 10+ minutes before launching ElkRP.

Launching ElkRP 2.0.41, selecting the previously functioning Home account, I tried Connection>Network and received these indications:
                  Connecting to Network
                  Connecting verifying system identity…
System did not respond. Connection may have been terminated.

                  Then selecting ‘cancel’ resulted in:
                  System returned invalid information.

M1EXP setup shows the ip and ports are the same as before running the Special utility, and I can ping the M1EXP at the old ip address.

I have not yet performed the updates to 2.0.4 and 2.0.51

Please advise what steps to take next.  Thanks.

Under Setup, Options, Network Adapters make sure to use the dropdown to select the IP address of your PC on the LAN

The IP of your PC and the M1XEP should be in the same range for example 192.168.1. xxx and 192.168.yyy

On the Account Detail screen the System URL/IP is the address of the M1XEP

                    Port 2601

The option “Connect Non-Secure” should NOT be checked

Bingo!  ip and ports were OK, but the option “Connect Non-Secure” was checked – unchecking allowed the connection to proceed.  Thank you.

Please advise how you would advise proceeding with updates to 2.0.4 and 2.0.51
Perhaps via Send/Rcv then Enroll/Update Control and Devices?

                        After connecting:

                        • Click Send/Receive, Enroll/Update Control and Devices
                        • Under the Enroll/Update window select/click the M1XEP
                        • Under the Update window select “Bootware” and in the dropdown you should see 2.0.4
                        • Click Update
                        • Once Complete select “Firmware” and in the dropdown select 2.0.51
                        • Click Update
                        • Once the Firmware has been updated Wait 10 Minutes before attempting to reconnect using ElKRP2
