In December, I purchased an Elk M1 Gold, two 16-zone expansions (M1XIN) boards, and three keypads. I am replacing an OmniPro II and using the same enclosure.

One of the expansion boards will not enroll.  It does not give any of the standard multi-count LED pulses.  Rather, its LED flickers as if to signal data traffic – similar to the LED on an Ethernet port, but not nearly as intense/frequent as full Ethernet.

The other expansion board works great.  Its LED signals properly when it’s ready to enroll, and then has the steady 1-beat LED pulse that is expected.

      What I have tried…

      • Wire only one M1XIN and one keypad and set up from scratch with a new account file. Everything works perfectly with one of the boards, but when shut down, swap in the second board, and boot up the system, the LED on that second board just flickers randomly and will not enroll.
      • I’ve altered the board addresses. One board always works perfectly with whatever address I give it.  The other never enrolls and just flickers no matter what address I give it.

      I’ve confirmed…

      • Proper termination – always exactly two termination jumpers on the last evice on each run (or on main controller if only one run).
      • Well-seated wire connections in the terminals.
      • Swapped the wiring blocks from one M1XIN to the other, and the good one performs with either wiring block, and the bad board doesn’t work with either wiring block.
      • Continuity checks with a multimeter.
      • Visual inspection – I can see nothing different between the two boards, no solder connections, scratches, or component variation whatsoever.

Are there any specific troubleshooting sequences I should try with the problematic M1XIN?

Or, is this behavior indicative of a bad board?  I’m new to Elk.  This is a home DIY replacement.
