Account Details Screen
The primary screen for an account. It shows the customer’s name, contact information, system telephone number, and other account information.
Account Event Log
A log of system events, such as alarms and armings, kept in the system’s memory. The log can be received by ElkRP and printed.
Account Folders
An arrangement of accounts that makes them easier to find. Folders are organized in a tree structure so the operator can browse through the tree to find an account.
Account ID
Each account in the accounts database has its own unique Account ID, sometimes called an account number. It may contain letters, numbers, and symbols.
Account Templates
A default account set up for creating new accounts. The template can be used to populate a newly created account with common default settings.
Accounts Database
A database stored on the ElkRP computer or a network file server that contains all customer accounts.
Baud
The speed of serial data across a serial cable or through a modem.
Boot Loader
The program inside the main unit or peripheral that is responsible for receiving and programming a new firmware upgrade.
Branch
An item in the left pane tree view that has leaves below it when expanded.
Conflict
A situation that exists when ElkRP connects with a system and there is a difference between the system’s programming and ElkRP’s database.
Conflicts Window
A yellow window that appears at the bottom of the screen and lists differences between the system and ElkRP’s database.
Current Status
The current state of the system, including whether it is armed or disarmed, active alarms, and zone status.
Customer Accounts
The information stored in the database for each customer. It includes contact information and the values programmed in their system.
Custom Values Account
An account containing custom (default) values used to create a new account or to set items to known custom values.
Direct Connections
A connection between ElkRP and a system across a serial RS-232 cable.
Download
Program data that is transferred from ElkRP to the system and stored in the system’s memory.
ElkRP Log
A history of when and how ElkRP was used. All pertinent events are listed in the log along with the time and date.
Export
When an account is exported, it is written to a file on disk. It may be copied, emailed, or imported into another database.
Firmware
The software or set of instructions running inside a device that operates the device.
Import
Reading an account that has been exported into the database.
IP Address
A network or internet address of the form 196.192.0.1. It is used to connect to a system on a network or the internet.
Leaf
The bottom-most item in the left pane tree view. No other items are below it.
Left Pane
The left-most window in ElkRP.
Line Seizure
The ability of a system to take complete control of the telephone line entering a property, thereby disconnecting any other devices, such as telephones or modems, that may also use it. This gives the system exclusive use of the telephone line so that it will not be interrupted.
Main Unit
The control or “mother board” in a system.
Modem Connections
A connection between ElkRP and a system through a Windows-compatible modem.
Multi-operator Access
Enables or disables operator log on to ElkRP. If enabled, each operator is assigned a password and security settings. The setting can be changed in the Options section of the Setup menu.
Network Connections
A connection between ElkRP and a system across a local network or the internet.
Network Interface Module
An optional piece of hardware, available from Elk Products, that connects a system to a local area network or the internet. Similar to a network interface card in a computer.
Off-line
ElkRP is not connected to a system.
On-line
ElkRP is connected to a system.
Operator
An ElkRP user. If Multi-operator Access is enabled, each operator is assigned a password to log on to ElkRP.
Peripherals
The supporting devices attached to the main unit to make up a system. For example, keypads and expanders.
Receive
Program data that is transferred from the system to the PC and stored in ElkRP’s database.
Remote Control
Using ElkRP to change the state of a system. Examples include arming and disarming the system and bypassing zones. Remote control also allows the operator to view the current arm/disarm state and zone status.
Remote Programming
Modifying settings in a system that affect how the system operates. Examples include zone definitions, entry and exit delay times, user codes, and communicator codes. When a change is made from the computer, it is sent to the system, programming the system with the change.
Right Pane
The right-most window in ElkRP.
RJ-31 Telephone Jack
A telephone wiring jack that simplifies installation of line seizure for a system.
RP Access Code
A six-digit code unique to your company that is programmed in all your accounts. Its purpose is to prevent unauthorized access to the system by a rogue or pirated copy of ElkRP and to prevent takeover of the account by competitors.
Send
Program data that is transferred from ElkRP to the system and stored in the system’s memory.
Serial Number
A unique number programmed into the system’s main unit at the factory. No two units of the same model will have the same serial number.
Serial Port
A “COM” connection on a computer that accepts an RS-232 cable.
System
A complete security or automation system comprised of the main unit and its peripherals.
System Administrator
The person responsible for the setup, configuration, and maintenance of ElkRP.
Tree
A hierarchical structure displayed in the left pane, having branches extending from the top level down to the next level, with additional branches extending to lower levels and ending with leaves at the bottom.
USB Port
“Universal Serial Bus” — a protocol for attaching several devices that communicate serially to a single cable attached to a personal computer.
Upload
Program data that is transferred from the system to the PC and stored in ElkRP’s database.
URL
A network or internet address of the form mysystem.mydomain.com. It is used to connect to a system on a network or the internet.
