Brad,
It’s been about 8 years since I asked you for support with an M1EXP remote connection problem and I have been able to fix them since with little trouble. I have the Elk M1 system in my home in Michigan where I spend half the year. I spend the other half in Hawaii, where I am now. I tested the communication with the RP2 over the internet before I left in December and it was working using my laptop there. When I got here and tried to connect using the same laptop it would not connect. I did a factory reset of the router here in Maui. I changed the network hostname and got it working for all of my programs including several that require a connection inside my LAN in Michigan and they all work. I can manage the Michigan router settings from here as well. I have not changed anything with the Elk programs since it was working perfectly a month ago and, I was afraid I would make things worse. I did look at the RP2 setup page and see that the choices for Network Adapter are either the Maui router or the Maui desktop, not the Michigan router. If you think you can help me, I would certainly appreciate it. The automation system is working well and I can live with it as is until I return to MI . I can fix it there. Just wondering if you have any suggestions. Mal JJanuary 27, 2025 at 9:08 am #8736Brad WeeksDid you Port Forward Port 2601 in the router in Michigan? Has the Public IP for the home in Michigan changed? Please make sure you are running ElkRP2 version 2.0.41 and on the Account Detail Screen under System URL/IP this is the Public IP for the M1 in Michigan, Port 2601 and the option to “Connect Non-Secure” is Not checked.
January 27, 2025 at 9:35 pm #8739Malcolm JohnsonTo answer your questions, the router in Michigan has the M1 port forwarded through 2601, the DNS I use is the same one I have used for years and seems to be working for my cameras and M1 to Go (I don’t know how to test it for the M1) and the URL/IP shown on the M1 details page is the same IP for the Elk in the Michigan network. It is the IP that the internet connects to through the secure port. The RP2 version is 2.0.41 and the non-secure port is not checked.
One thing I noticed that seems strange is that the IP shown in Setup Options as the network adapter IP is the address of the router in Maui, not the router in Michigan. I can’t change it. The box offers 3 choices and they are all the same, the Maui router address.
Thanks for the help,
Mal
January 28, 2025 at 8:58 am #8740Brad WeeksThe “Network Adapter” is the IP address of your computer for the network that computer is currently connected . Do you recall the firmware version the M1XEP is currently running?
January 28, 2025 at 2:19 pm #8742Malcolm JohnsonFrom the Detail page:
Hardware version: 0.13 Boot: 3.3.2, Firmware: 5.3.10, M1G Control: 5.0.41
I don’t see the downloader required to update the firmware in my list of available updates.
