I am looking to install 2 ELK-7TS to replace ELK K1NAV.  I  have CAT5 cables running from the M1 to each of the keypads.

I do NOT have power outlets near the keypads.

      Questions:

      1. Would you recommend to use the CAT5 wiring with the ELK-POE47TS? or just run power via the CAT5 wires and use WIFI for data?
      2. If I go with option 1 above, I will need to get a POE switch that would feed the ELK-POE47TS
      3. The cost is an issue as well as the additional 2 ELK-POE47TS that would be another point of failure.
      4. In case of power outage the home network would be down anyway
      5. Cost and complexity wise, it looks like using WIFI and running power via the CAT5 cables would be cheaper, eliminate additional points of failure and so on.
      6. If going with option 5 above, what power supply would you recommend me to use that would feed both keypads?

Please let me know your recommendations for best practice in this case.

      Thanks,

      Eli

The ELK 7TS Touchscreen is our new Graphical User Interface (GUI) to interface with the ELK M1 Gold over the Local Area Network. The 7TS is not an M1 Data Bus Device and is not considered an M1 Keypad on the M1 Data Bus. The M1 Gold requires at least One Hardwired Keypad (M1KP/M1KPB, M1KP2/M1KP3, M1KPNAV) set to Address #1 be connected to the M1 Gold. The 7TS can be configured to emulate one of the M1s hardwired keypads. The 7TS can communicate over the Local Area Network either WiFi or through the optional ELK POE47TS Adapter. Also required is either the M1XEP Ethernet Interface or the C1M1 in order for the 7TS to communicate to the M1 Gold. If using the M1XEP as your network interface you can have up to 4 7TS communicating to the M1 or if using the C1M1 it is a max of 1 7TS.

Using  the WiFi or the POE47TS option would be up to you as there are benefits to both. In some cases WiFi might be your only option. The 7TS operate from 12 VDC and draw approximately 1 Amp of current . You could use the ELK 1426 to power the 7TS.
