How do i view the present value of a counter and possibly change it to correct or sync with the correct state.

The only way to view a counter value is to create a Custom Text message to display on the keypad. Under Automation and Text create a short text string for example Cntr1 = {click Insert select Counter Value; use the second drop-down to select Counter 1} then create a rule to display the counter value when an F key is pressed:
Whenever F4 Key On Any Keypad Activates
Then Display “Cntr1 %0” In My Home (Area 1) For 10 Seconds, (*) Clears
