I have had my Elk M1 for more than 10-years, working just fine.  Lately the network access was intermittent until it got to a point where it stopped working.  The amber light flashes on the M1XEP, so I assume a bad board (which is fine after 10-years in a garage in southern Florida).  I received a new M1XEP. I can see the IP address that has been assigned via my router, and I can ping it, but when I use the search capability in the M1XEP setup, it reports that there are “No M1XEPs found”. The M1 display is not reporting an issue such as “Failure to communicate”, which is how it was showing with the broken M1XEP, so my assumption is that the M1 thinks everything is fine – I just can’t connect to it. I am using the same IP address as with the old M1XEP, thus should not require any changes to router port forwarding.

Interestingly, I downloaded M1ToGo, and when I click on [Find Local], it sees the controller on the correct IP address with the mac address.  I am able to see the control panel with active zones via this other software.   At this point, I don’t know if there is some issue with the new M1XEP, where it is only not visible to ElkRP application.  Per the instructions that came with the new M1XEP, I updated the version of ElkRP to 2.0.41.

In ElkRP2 under Setup, Options, Network Adapters in the dropdown do you see the IP Address of your PC on the Local Area Network? If so highlight the IP, click OK and close the Network Adapter screen. With your Account Open using ElkRP2 on the Account Detail Screen the System URL/IP should be the IP of the M1XEP, Port 2601 and the option to “Connect Non-Secure” should not be checked. Try the connection again.

Thanks…that is exactly what the issue was.

I noticed that each time I connect I now get an XEP Setup change.  I followed your suggestions at the following link, including updating the XEP firmware and bootloader to the latest.  Is this a known bug that I just need to accept, or is there a way to hide this?  Perhaps “Delete Checked item entirely”?

M1XEP Repeats Conflict on Connect After Update

Another issue that popped up after I fixed the RP connection issue….don’t know if you have any thoughts on this:

Now that I am able to access it from the ElkRP software, it seems that M1ToGo won’t let me connect any more. I even closed ElkRP completely, but I get a message “Could not Establish Connection! Username and password are required”. I didn’t require a U/P previously, so assume it is just a default message, though “Find Local” still works.  The only thing I did with ElkRP that could have caused an issue is that when it mentioned “identified differences between the the db & system”, with the XEP setup, I pushed from the DB to the system, which didn’t affect the RP app, but perhaps it caused this issue.   Only really an issue right now since I did something to screw up the keypad display, so this at least let me see the status of the system.

Issue #1 M1XEP Conflict upon connecting —– Connect to the system and under Automation, Sunrise/Sunset click “Select A City Near You” and select a City, make sure the Time Zone is correct, click Calculate and Send To Control. Click the M1XEP Setup and “Receive” the M1XEP Setup, Save the Account Information — disconnect and reconnect. Did you receive the M1EP Conflict? If Yes you might have to start over and recreate the setup from scratch.

Issue #2 M1ToGo Require Username and Password. In the M1XEP Setup under the TCP/IP Setting Tab make sure to “Enable Non-Secure Port 2101” and this is sent to the M1XEP. In M1ToGo click Modify Profile , Uncheck “Use Secure Connection” click Save and then Connect. You should be able to connect.

Issue 1: I had previously found that sunrise was not set, and had followed the suggestions in the shared link, though it did not solve the issue.  It seems that using the troubleshooting that you shared for issue 2 seems to have solved the issue, though am not sure exactly which step.

Issue 2: I had this previously set to port 2102 and it was checked in M1XEP setup. I changed to 2101 and sent to the M1XEP, causing a reboot. In M1ToGo I unchecked the secure connection checkbox, and upon connecting, it fails with “Could not establish connection. Check your settings…”.  Any other thoughts?  If not, I have lived without using this program for 10-yrs, so it isn’t too critical if I can’t get it working.
