      Hi,

My M1XEP which had been working fine for many years, suddenly went to a state that I can’t connect to it. Debugging it further, I found that its MAC address has changed to 00:40:9D:43:35:97. IP address has gone to static IP (192.168.3.64: which is outside of the subnet that I use). Also it appears that its firmware has gone back to something really old. The upgrade utility provided by elk is also not useful as it that is complaining about firmware too old.

At this point, I have not network connectivity to elk and I can’t control it remotely. Can somebody help me to revive it.

      Thanks.

Power down the M1XEP and install a jumper onto JP2 of the M1XEP. Power up with the jumper ON and watch the Green Network LED which after ~20 seconds should start flashing either one blink per second or two blinks per second. If one blink per second then remove the JP2 jumper but if two blinks per second power back down and back up. After the second power cycle the Green LED should be blinking one blink per second at which time remove the JP2 Jumper and let the M1XEP reboot. The reboot will take approximately 60 seconds and the Green LED should be flashing randomly with data traffic. Use ElkRP2 to try and Find the M1XEP on the LAN or use the M1XEP Special 2.0.34 Updater Utility to see if the utility can find your M1XEP . https://www.elkproducts.com/elkdoc/special-m1xep-2-0-34-updater-utility/

Thanks Brad. The process above seems like a way to change from static ip to dynamic IP. What I did was that I changed the ip address of a computer in the same subnet as the default ip address (192.168.3.64). After that I’m able to ping m1xep however I can’t connect to it using ElkRP2.  ElkRP2 detects the M1xep but connection fails all the time on both secure port and unsecure port. I tried the utility you mentioned above, it also detects the m1xep but says it can’t upgrade as the firmware on the device is too old.

What should be the next steps?

          Thanks
