All systems are made up of a main unit and various peripherals such as keypads and expanders. Every main unit and peripheral has a microprocessor that controls it. Each microprocessor executes a set of instructions called the firmware. Firmware (sometimes called software) may be changed from time to time when bugs are found and fixed or when enhancements are added. Such changes result in firmware updates being released. A unique feature of ElkRP is the ability to send these updates to a system. Updates may only be sent when connected via a direct connection or a network connection. Updates may not be done via a modem connection.

To update a main unit or peripheral, first make sure the update is located in the folder specified on the Files tab of the Options command in the Setup menu. Open the account to be updated and connect to it. Click the Send/Rcv menu and select Enroll/Update Control and Devices. Select the device to be updated and click Update. On the next screen, select the version to upgrade to and click Update.
You can update only one device at a time.
Elk Products may release a firmware version that will only work with a specific hardware or bootware revision. In this case, ElkRP will not allow you to select the incompatible version.
During the update, ElkRP automatically handles any errors that occur. If an unrecoverable error occurs (such as an accidental disconnection), the device being updated will not work until the update is completed. You should try the update again.
