The access code is a security feature that prevents unauthorized connections to a customer’s system and prevents takeover by competitors. It is a code that you or your system administrator chooses. This code should be kept confidential.
The code is stored with each Customer Account in the accounts database and is also programmed in each system’s main unit. When ElkRP connects to a system, if the codes do not match, the connection is terminated.
For simplicity, the same code could be used for each account. It would be, in effect, your “Dealer Code.” However, if greater security is desired, the code may be different for each account.
The code must be entered on the Account Details Screen screen or the New Account dialog screen before connecting to a new system for the first time. During the first connection, the code will be automatically programmed in the system’s main unit. Once programmed, it should only be changed while ElkRP is connected to the account. After it is programmed on the initial connection, it is checked on every subsequent connection attempt. If the code on the Account Details screen matches what is programmed in the system, ElkRP and the system will connect. If they do not match, the connection is terminated, preventing any further access.
