This method is intended primarily to defeat voice mail answering services provided by the customer’s local telephone company. It may, however be used to bypass any type of answering machine.
Most local telephone companies provide voice mail services. If the customer subscribes to this service, the telephone company intercepts unanswered calls and re-routes them to a voice mail system. This means that the customer’s telephone will stop ringing after four or more rings. If the security/automation system is programmed to answer on five or more rings, it will never answer!
The system must be programmed to enable this feature. Refer to the system’s installation and programming manual for details.
The dial/hang-up/dial feature allows two ways to connect, hands free or prompted. When you select prompted, ElkRP dials the customer’s number (on the Account Details screen) and prompts you to disconnect. Listen for one or two rings and click Hangup Now. ElkRP will delay a few seconds, them prompt you to re-dial. Click OK to re-dial. The hands free method dials the customer’s number, waits a few seconds, hangs up, and dials again automatically. If dial/hang-up/dial is enabled in the system, it will answer on the first ring of the second dial attempt.
