Leviton recently announced plans to phase out the HAI Omni product family. If you are an Omni installer, you will soon find yourself deciding how to move forward and which products will be viable alternatives. We invite you to consider ELK's M1 Security and Automation Platform, which offers many parallels to the Omni systems, as well as some distinct advantages.
HAI was a pioneer in automation and a worthy competitor to ELK’s M1. The biggest difference in the two lines lies in our origins; HAI came from HVAC and focused on automation and added security features, while ELK’s roots are in security so we focused on security and added automation features. Secure connectivity and communications are a priority in the design of our controls, alarm communicators, wireless sensors and other peripherals.
For over 25 years, ELK Products has provided innovative and reliable solutions for security and automation professionals. ELK’s M1 systems offer the ideal combination of security, energy management, and integrated control. At its core, M1 is a rock solid, robust UL Listed security and life safety control. It provides comprehensive detection and reporting of intrusion, fire & CO, medical emergencies, water leaks, and hi/low temperatures, as well as access control capabilities. Using an integration-friendly approach, M1 builds on this platform with full-featured automation capability to enhance safety, comfort, and convenience.
M1 is a very scalable and flexible platform, making it great for most any residential application, large or small. However, installers should not overlook the commercial opportunities for M1 in small to mid-sized businesses, as well as schools and municipal buildings. With M1, you have the ability to use the same control across a wide range of installations, while still fulfilling the needs of each customer. It features large zone capacity, supporting both hardwired and wireless sensors. M1 also expands to support a large number of devices through outputs and integration modules, providing intelligent control and automation of lights, thermostats, garage doors, gates, fans, irrigation, water valves, and more.
In keeping with ELK’s focus on security, we designed wireless sensors to be more secure and reliable. For budget conscious installations, ELK offers the economical 319 Series Wireless Sensors. These sensors are designed for years of reliable performance and feature MaxOut™ Technology to increase coverage and battery life. When increased security is a must, choose ELK's Two-Way Wireless technology, which is encrypted and defends against hacking. Utilizing true, two-way communication with the wireless sensors, ELK has incorporated innovative features to enhance security and life safety. Our two-way keyfobs have system status inquiry button. This allows users to know if an alarm has occurred before approaching or entering the premise which could help prevent an encounter with an intruder. Our two-way smokes have wirelessly interconnected sounder activation. In the event of a fire alarm, the sounders on all enrolled smoke detectors are activated. This is an installer favorite feature, as it allows them to meet new codes/standards without hard wiring.
M1’s flexibility extends to alarm reporting as well, supporting IP, cellular, and landline communications. ELK’s C1M1 Dual Path Alarm Communicators provide super fast full data reporting to the Central Monitoring Station over IP and cellular pathways. C1M1 also supports remote connectivity for arming and disarming, as well as remote programming without requiring port forwarding. For installations where cellular service is unavailable, ELK offers an "IP only" option with the M1XEP IP Interface & Communicator. M1 controls feature a built-in telephone dialer and use industry standard reporting formats.
The Internet of Things changed our lives. With all of its conveniences come increased risks. Connected homes and businesses need smart control solutions focused on security. M1 controls feature superior encryption and multi-level authentication for remote access. An advanced microprocessor offers increased speed, capabilities, and immunity to hacking.
With remote access capabilities and simple, user-friendly interfaces, M1 keeps users informed and in control, anytime, anywhere! Functionality and style are in perfect balance with keypad options ranging from touch screens to discrete arming stations. Integration capability with many popular whole house systems provides even more user interface options. M1 also offers convenient remote control options for smartphones, tablets, PCs, and web browsers, with or without monthly fees. Customers can also receive event notifications by phone, email, or text message.
Combining security and home automation in one system has clear advantages. Arming status information and existing intrusion detection sensors can be used to provide control based on occupancy. With support for a variety of sensors, M1 can also monitor other environmental conditions. Devices can be scheduled based on time/ day and a built-in astronomical clock allows the system to know when sunrise and sunset occur. M1 brings together all of this information to provide intelligent automation of lights, thermostats, garage doors, gates, sprinklers, water valves and more.
ELK's M1 takes a different approach to subsystems: lighting, thermostats, AV, etc., integrating with products from a variety of industry partner manufactures allowing control of most any electrical device. This empowers you to work with the products you prefer or your customer requests. You can meet the needs of customers who are budget conscious and those who want high-end options. HAI installers will appreciate the similarities in system programming and the installer-friendly features of our ElkRP2 software. This easy and powerful programming software contains simple drop downs, checkboxes and text fields. Even MACROS or rules are created the same way to build logic statements in plain English, providing a platform for powerful and imaginative system configuration. Conflict resolution offers easy synchronization of M1 system programming and rules can be quickly enabled or disabled.
