Use this command to tell ElkRP which serial port and modem to use for direct and telephone connections.
Under Direct Connections, select the serial (COM) port to use. This will be the COM port assigned to the USB Serial Converter by the computer. The COM port assignment and port settings can be viewed and changed in the Windows Device Manager.
In the Modem Connections box, select the modem to be used for all out-going and incoming calls. This modem will be used whenever ElkRP dials an account. It is also the modem that will answer if the account calls ElkRP, and whenever ElkRP is left in Unattended Auto-answer mode. If the modem you want is not in the list, it is either in use by another program or is not configured properly. Refer to the modem’s documentation to insure it has been installed and configured properly, then try again.
Most modems will work with the default configuration provided by Microsoft Windows. You can use the configuration button to change the settings, however, if needed. Whatever changes you make to the modem’s configuration are effective only for ElkRP. They will not affect other applications that use the same modem. If you have trouble connecting, try setting the following options. These may vary by modem. Your modem may not provide all the settings listed here, and may provide additional ones:
• Speaker Volume: On until connected (to hear call progress when using the Prompt When System Answers Dial Method)
• Maximum Speed: 2400
• Data Bits: 8
• Parity: None
• Stop Bits: 1
• Use Error Control: No
• Use Flow Control: No
• Modulation Type: Standard
Because the system being called may not answer until several rings, you should disable any setting that cancels a call if it is not answered within a specified time, or increase the timeout value to two minutes or more.
The dial/hang-up/dial feature allows two ways to connect, hands free or prompted. When you select prompted, ElkRP prompts you to hang up and dial again. The hands free method hangs up and dials again automatically. The two time values at the bottom of this window allow you to adjust the time ElkRP waits for the first ring and the time between dial attempts. The default values should work in most cases.
